The ‘Chansons de ma vie’ repertoire includes the ‘little masterpieces’ that have so far marked out the pianist's personal history. They reflect both childhood nostalgia and collective memory, and are drawn from jazz, film music, classical and pop. But there is no doubt a certain approach to musical language that rises above tastes and memories. It would be a ‘sound grammar’, as Ornette Coleman put it, a grammar of sounds, and it would carry with it a universal emotional significance. At least, that's what Casimir Liberski hopes, with the idea that a ‘masterpiece’, big or small and wherever it comes from, will forever retain an inescapable and precious mystery.
