A discussion on how contemporary music can preserve and transform cultural memory in the homeland and in the diaspora. The panel will address the impact of cultural and geographical displacement on musical identity, as well as cultural memory and music in relation to the European cultural structure from the perspective of SWANA communities.
With
Youmna Saba: Paris-based Lebanese musician, composer and musicologist who combines electroacoustic music and the Arabic language in its sung form.
Nazanin Yalda: Brussels-based Iranian musician and composer, currently completing a Sonic Sessions Residency supported by Ancienne Belgique, Globe Aroma and Tashattot.
Zaydoun Hajjar: Phd candidate who researches music and migration.
Moderated by Gaëlle Khalife, founding member of Tashattot.

Tashattot – Arabic for scattering, dispersion – is an art collective based in Belgium, that aims to connect and support artists and cultural practitioners from the SWANA region scattered around Europe. In Arabic the word tashattot is also used metaphorically to describe the wandering of the thoughts.
